My name is Lynsay Sands and I'm the author of the Argeneau series and many hysterical historicals (as my readers tend to call them). I have over forty-five books and twelve anthologies in print, which probably tells you I really enjoy writing. I consider myself very lucky to have been able to make a career out of it.
How Did You Begin Writing?
I began writing as soon as I learned to string words together to make a sentence. By ten or eleven I was writing 70 and 80 page adventure stories, usually in my closet. LOL. My parents wanted me to go outside and play like normal kids, but I wanted to write, so I had a secret writing spot in my closet where I’d hide and write. They’d think I was outside and I got to write unbothered. Everyone was happy.
Actually, I don’t really have a favorite. Each genre has something to recommend it and—frankly—if I didn’t enjoy the genre I wouldn’t base a story in it. Usually, I’m more concerned with the people than the setting. The setting, including genre and everything else is just dressing for the story about those people to me.
Where Do Your Ideas Come From?
All from my noggin… scary, huh? I tend to write about what I know so I draw from things I experience or those close to me experience. As for my characters, I tend to draw from people I know or meet. So each character will have their own quirks and temperament, etc. Different personalities lead to different responses and reactions to situations, which leads to different situations developing from the original ones.
How Long Does It Take To Write a Book?
It usually takes me about two weeks to a month of me writing around the clock to write a book. I write from the time I get up till the time I go to bed. I usually sleep four hours a night during that time until the last couple days then I might not sleep at all while I finish it off. I usually start with a scene and let the characters run with it.
How to reach me...
I really do enjoy hearing from my readers! In fact, some days your encouragement is the only thing that keeps me slogging through the rewrites, line edits, and blocks. So please feel free to contact me.
